Does Genopatch Use The Original Sample At All?

    If you drop copyrighted content into Genopatch, is it 100% synthesized? Or is it using any part of the sample you dropped?

  • Fredrik Lidström

    Nope, no part of the sample is used in the result.

    Think of it as this; If you had been using Synplant 2 your entire life, you knew what every parameter did and how it would affect the sound of the patch. You were then given a challenge to recreate a sample inside that 100% synthetic synth. You quickly dial in a rough start, then listen to the result, tweak a parameter, listen again, and tweak again. This is what Genopatch does, but at hundreds of times per second, rendering Synplant sounds at hyper-speed. (This is why the process is so CPU heavy.)

    The end result are a set of parameters, a Synplant patch looks like this:

    SynplantPatch: {
    	branches: {
    		{ id: 0x2c3af5ae, length: "0.0%", volume: "0.0 dB" },

    That's it!

    Fun fact: you can actually copy the content Fredrik posted here and paste it into Synplant. Nice patch, hehe.

    Yes, it does. Did you get the curly brace at the end?
